Heat treatment times for aluminum alloys serve as recommendations that, in most situations, will deliver mechanical properties as good or better than industry standards. In some castings those requirements can be met using shorter solution times than recommended. This study was conducted to determine if shorter solution times influenced the fatigue performance of A356 heat treated to a T6 condition. The results indicate that shorter solution times do not reduce fatigue performance in the times tested but there was some improvement with the use of Sr as a modifier.
