This 200 level course introduces the principles and practices of aluminum melting for use in castings. The course will examine furnace charging, furnace temperature and its effect on the melt, and examine in-furnace treatments to reduce impurities. Melt sampling, transfer and pouring methods and the corresponding equipment and various techniques will be analyzed, throughout the course.


Course will be hosted on Zoom from 12-4 PM Central Time each day.

Dave Palmer has a B.S. in materials engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.S. in materials engineering from UW-Milwaukee. He works as a supply quality development engineer for BRP-US Inc. Palmer is an experienced teacher and has worked for both producers and end-users of metal castings.
