The fourth industrial revolution, referred to as Industry 4.0, reflects a significant transformation in production methods due to the digitization of manufacturing. Within the foundry industry, increasing demands for process efficiency, product traceability, and profitability require the ability to measure every step of the production process. These measurements can be used to determine and implement corrective actions that resolve the root cause of the problem. Technologies currently exist today to identify and collect comprehensive data, resulting in complete traceability of the casting process while providing supervisors and managers with important tools for process improvement.
