This course provides participants an introduction covering the characteristics and properties of steel, alloying elements and grades of steel, heat treatment, quality control, as well as considerations for working with steel cast parts. This course also covers melting technology and casting technology.

Course Instructors:
Michael Porfilio, Stainless Foundry & Engineering, Inc.

Mike is currently the Director of Quality, Foundry Engineering and the Technical Departments at Stainless Foundry & Engineering, Inc. (SF&E).  He has worked in the technical departments of both Metallurgy and Quality Management / Assurance during his tenure as well as Foundry Engineering.  Mike is responsible for maintaining the ISO 9001:2015, 2014/68/EU Pressure Equipment Directive, ISO 17025, Nuclear, NAVSEA and other compliance programs in the foundry and the machine shop.  The opportunity to develop programs and systems that increase customer satisfaction and upward continuous improvements are his motivating factors at SF&E.  Mike has been in the foundry industry since 1980.
