  • WEBINAR
The webinar will review the basic function of the Missouri S&T hardenability calculator.  This excel spreadsheet calculator uses traditional empirical relations based on steel chemistry to determine heat treatment parameters, prior austenite grain size, hardenability, quenched hardness profile, and tempered hardness.  Two examples will be discussed in detail. First, we will examine the development of a quench and temper heat treatment to meet ASTM A915 grade 150/135 using an SC8630 steel. Next, the calculator will be used to estimate tensile properties as obtained from a 0.505 tensile bar machined from a water quenched ASTM A1067 Keel block leg.  The second example will show how the calculator can be used to measure the quench severity of an industrial quench system using the Kern method and SAE 1045 or SAE 8620 round bars of various diameters.
