This seminar is designed for people with only a few years of experience in the health and safety field, and for those newer to the metalcasting industry. Some participants may have worked in a foundry for decades but manage safety and health as only one of many responsibilities. This primer will cover OSHA’s hierarchy of controls, incident investigation practices, electrical safety, the basics of arc flash, Lock-Out Tag-Out (energy control), machine guarding, the basics of industrial hygiene (noise exposure issues, respiratory protection, hazardous substances recognition and assessment), silica requirements, emergency planning, fire protection, falls from heights, ladder safety, training requirements, how to handle an OSHA visit, and other issues. We’ll discuss the most common foundry citations and share additional resources with seminar participants. We’ll conclude the session with a Health & Safety Panel to field any remaining questions you may have.
