Mold and core coating related casting defects will be discussed. Topics will include veining, penetration, erosion, blows (gas defects), spalling, scabs and inclusions, orange peel, brush marks, teardrops, cratering/fish eyes/bubbles, coating retention, and excess coating. The AFS 4F committee has also designed a poster that is available for purchase outlining these defects, including an example picture, a definition, causes, and solutions.
